Description

The project will focus on thedevelopment of sustainable processes (able to combine biotechnologies and greenhydrometallurgy) for the recovery of strategic metals (e.g. Cu, Co, Li) fromlithium batteries and printed circuit boards. The idea is to supply to themarket innovative solutions to implement in the field of end-of-life electricvehicles fields. The project will integrate experimental activities, development of models to understand the involved mechanisms and environmentalsustainability assessment. In this regard, standardized methods, such as LifeCycle Assessment, will be used to drive the sustainable optimization of theproposed solutions.

Suggested skills:

Lab experience, Knowledge inenvironemntal sustainability assessment (e.g. life cycle assessment), chemicalknowledge, basic computer knowledge.

Research team and environment

The Environmental Technologies groupis part of the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences (PolytechnicUniversity of Marche).

The group deals with the developmentand optimization of processes for environmental applications, based onhydrometallurgical and biotechnological methods. The measurements ofenvironemntal sustainability and circularity are peculiarities of the researchlines of the group. The research team is composed of: a full professor, anassociate professor, a researcher, several research fellows, PhD students andinterns. It has available a lab with dedicated equipment (e.g. XRF).
