The research aims to address the ethical and legaldimensions of climate change governance at the international, regional andnational levels. The main goal of the research is twofold. From amethodological point of view, the research requires a constitutive interplaybetween the ethics of climate change and the legal and regulatory frameworksrelated to this specific domain. From a thematic point of view, it is necessaryto pay special attention to the following key issues: i) as regards the ethicsof climate change: reference to framework values, theories ofindividual/institutional motivation, theories of direct/indirect reciprocity,as well as theories of intergenerational justice; ii) as regards the legaldomain of climate change: reference to relevant international agreements, suchas the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement; as well as the emergence of new subjectsof law (the rights of future generations and the rights of nature both inlegislative and jurisprudential developments, with attention to Global Southexperiences). A specific reference to the documents and decisions emanatingfrom the Conference of the Parties (COP), as well as to the regulatoryframeworks regarding adaptation and mitigation measures at the national,macro-regional and international levels will be particularly appreciated.
We encourage ambitious submissions relying on genuinetransdisciplinarity, including ethical theories, law sectors, politicalscience, and environmental economics.
Openness towards interdisciplinary approaches, as wellas a solid competence in humanities and social sciences areas, with specificreference to all domains of philosophy and law, will be specificallyappreciated.
For this scholarship it is mandatory a period of research abroad of 6months.
The research will be mainly carried out at theSant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (Pisa – Italy). In this context, theresearch will be developed within the “Institute of Law, Politics andDevelopment”, together with the “Interdisciplinary Center Sustainability andClimate”.
Due to the specificity of the project, the researchpath includes a constitutive interplay and secondment at the “CMCC – Centro Euro-Mediterraneo suiCambiamenti Climatici”, an Italian leading research center focused onunderstanding the interaction between climate change and society.
