The research revolves around the interplay between theethics of emergency and environmental humanities. Due to the worldwide risingof environmental emergencies coming from the series of phenomena we are used togroup under the label of climate change, beyond the technical equipment andstructures, it is even more urgent contributing to the strengthening of the notjust technical, rather ethical and social competence of the people in charge todirectly/indirectly address those emergencies.
From this point of view, the research focusses on thedevelopment of a perspective of emergency ethics, with particular reference tothe implementation of decision-making processes enhanced by a solid ethicalnormative framework (deontological ethics, consequentialist ethics and virtueethics), together with an innovative perspective of "moral dilemmas"related to the management/protection/use of the resource. A part of exclusiverelevance is constituted by the contribution that can come from the so-called “environmentalhumanities”, thus trying to broaden and deepen competences and sensitivity, andempathic capacity in the planning - also at policy level - and management inthe field of the climate emergency.
We encourage ambitious submissions relying on genuinetransdisciplinarity and on a plurality of disciplinary approaches, includingethical theories, law sectors, political science, and environmental economics.
Openness towards interdisciplinary approaches, as wellas a solid competence in humanities and social sciences areas, with specificreference to all domains of philosophy and law, will be specificallyappreciated.
For this scholarship it is mandatory a period of research abroad of 6months.
The research will be mainly carried out at theSant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (Pisa – Italy). In this context, theresearch will be developed within the “Institute of Law, Politics andDevelopment”, together with the “Interdisciplinary Center Sustainability andClimate”.
