Description

Language and figurative expressionswere showed to be a key element for communicating climate change and shapingsustainable societies, yet large inequalities remain in terms of climate changeeducation and awareness. Vulnerable groups include people with medicalconditions such as poor mental health, who might experience linguistic andsocietal barriers and whose health can be worsened by climate change impact. The project will aim at identified linguistic strategies for feasible andeffective intervention programs to promote climate change education andawareness in underserved populations, with specific reference to people withmental illnesses. Particular attention will be paid to metaphors, focusing onhow they can be used to increase knowledge about the health impacts of climatechange and to prepare and help cope with climate hazards, while targeting atthe same time the challenge of metaphorical comprehension in mental illness.

Theposition is funded by the ERC project “PROcessing MEtaphors: Neurochronometry,Acquisition and DEcay” (PROMENADE), CUP: I17G22000450006.

Research team and environment

The Laboratory of Neurolinguisticsand Experimental Pragmatics at IUSS (https://www.neplab.it/) is devoted to thestudy of the neurocognitive correlates of language processing in typical andatypical conditions and across the lifespan, with a focus on pragmatics andmetaphor. The team includes the PI Valentina Bambini, researchers andpostdoctoral fellows, as well as PhD students, in an interdisciplinary andlively research environment. The Lab is fully equipped for behavioral and EEGexperiments and has numerous connections with clinical facilities.
